The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) needed a database to monitor and manage the electricity utility grid. CDG Group developed an application under the GIS/AM/FM operation system. It included a data map with 1:1000 resolution, for electricity bases and power supply system for 3 provinces including Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samutprakarn. We conducted field surveys, and gathered orthophoto data and information from various agencies. For its innovative offering, this project was awarded for the outstanding Service and Data Management from the National Information Technology Committee in the 1st Government IT Week in 2000.
To support the ongoing improvement of MEA’s GIS (Geographic Information System) system and its policy to extend data map services to the wider public, CDG Group has improved the basemap service system to cater to the growing usage of tablets, PCs and mobile devices, so that customers can access MEA’s services anytime, anywhere.
For example, MEA Smart Life is a mobile application that can monitor electrical bills, allowing users to check electricity recording dates, payment due dates, locations for counter services and augmented reality (AR). In addition, the application allows users to compare distances of counter services to their current location using GPS and location base services. It also alerts users to the power outages when the MEA undergoes system maintenance. Likewise, users can report power downtime and send complaints about the MEA with photo attachments and location coordinates.
