NOSTRA Logistics revealed that Thailand’s transportation and logistics market will reach 200 billion baht with an annual growth of 15-20 per cent, being a prosperous business in the digital economy, while also announcing an aggressive move into the IoT logistics arena by delivering its NOSTRA LOGISTICS Analytics Platform and Telematics Solution to respond to the upturn in the market. This is a flagship product with GPS Tracking that will drive the transportation business to “Smart Logistics” through its 3S key selling points: SAFETY, to increase safety, SAVINGS to reduce expenses, and SATISFACTION to create the highest level of satisfaction.  The company revealed that the overall situation and trends of the transportation and logistics market in the fourth quarter was positive and was continuously moving in a good direction with transport operators in the process of installing telematics equipment connected to GPS tracking systems comprising both online mobile video cameras or MDVR and DMS cameras to detect the behavior of drivers and to help reduce the risk of accidents. Mrs Varinthorn Srisukdee, the commercial product director of GIS Co. Ltd., said that there were three factors behind the continuous expansion of the transportation and logistics market in Thailand by 15-20 per cent to become one of the rising businesses in the digital economy, and these were the growth of Thailand’s economy, increased government spending and the expansion of exports.  The company foresees an opportunity and has a marketing strategy with the NOSTRA LOGISTICS platform with Telematics Solution, a flagship product, as well as using GPS tracking to meet the needs of the transportation business that is looking for a logistics management system which is effective in this age of intense competition and rapid changes.  At the heart of the transportation business is speed of delivery and the full delivery of products on time to the satisfaction of the recipients.

The growth of Thailand’s logistics business is taking place amidst intense competition, with service operators using technology to help in this, whether it is automation using robots, artificial intelligence, or real-time mobile applications to help in the use of more logistics services to help manage costs more effectively along with increasing customer satisfaction. However, while transportation and logistics is a rising star business with high growth, it faces intense market competition that stems from three problems:

  1. Entering a market that belongs to foreign logistics companies that are ready for e-commerce and that make investments and which have business networks with online products;
  2. Service providers have to bear high transportation costs, such as for fuel or for the cost of trips by empty vehicles;
  3. Issues in adapting to the use of technology and in developing business models for increased capabilities and for long-term business.

With regard to this, the company has introduced two flagship products that leverage the GPS tracking system to meet market demand as follows:

  1. NOSTRA LOGISTICS Analytics Platform which is a platform for transportation and logistics to link all the transportation information into a digital system and which combines modern technology including GPS, Telematics, IoT (Internet of Things) and Big Data Analytics which are important tools to help manage transportation. This will be an important tool in helping to manage the transportation business. This stores delivery tracking data which comes from data sources or from GPS tracking platforms such as the location of a vehicle, distance, times, the speed of driving and the behavior of drivers and other data from telematics equipment that is input to NOSTRA LOGISTICS Analytics Platform and processed to present an overview of the operations of transportation vehicles. This includes analysis and provides insights to fleet managers such as reporting on the delivery of products, provides reports about driving behavior that solve problems and which makes decisions more accurate. This platform will reduce problems in linking data for each service provider, reducing tracking constraints, reducing complexity and time to manage data in different systems and increasing the capability to analyze data to solve issues of a lack of data support in decision-making.

  1. Telematics Solution This is a solution that enhances capabilities beyond normal GPS Tracking by using IoT (Internet of Things) that links to and communicates between the GPS box and Telematics equipment in the vehicle. Apart from vehicle tracking, telematics will focus on investigating and preventing risky behavior while driving for the safety of lives and assets by alerting drivers and transport controllers in real-time while also storing engine data such as fuel usage and distance driven in order to evaluate transportation vehicles and for maintenance planning, including reports in various formats for summarizing transport routes and for evaluating a report score of driver behavior.  By having a telematics solution, this will increase safety throughout the journeys, manage transport vehicles more efficiently and control fuel expenses to serve transportation business needs to increase capability, enhance safety and to reduce expenses.

“NOSTRA LOGISTICS has its own unique strengths —over 15 years of experience in Thai logistics and transformation— as it has pioneered the Professional IoT Logistics Solutions System Integrator in transportation and logistics for the past two decades. So we have developed NOSTRA LOGISTICS for a Total Transportation and Logistics System that has turnkey features ranging from Fleet Tracking and Monitoring, Fleet Management, Shipment Management, Resource Optimization and Safety Management including specific solutions that we have tailored for each customer to serve different needs by utilization of the system combined with a ready-to-use solution,” Mrs Varinthorn added.

 Mrs Varinthorn said NOSTRA LOGISTICS will move forward with the 3S key selling points – SAFETY, SAVINGS and SATISFACTION: Safety for lives, products and the transport of assets for businesses. For savings, businesses can save time, transport expenses and fuel. While for satisfaction, businesses and their customers will be satisfied with a transportation service that has a standard of quality enabling NOSTRA to become a technology leader to offer products and solutions that serve transportation and logistics needs.

As for the overall situation, the logistics market situation in the fourth quarter has been continuously moving in a good direction from the previous quarter in the process of installing telematics equipment that connect with GPS tracking systems, both online mobile video cameras (MDVR) and DMS (Driver Monitoring System) cameras to detect driver behavior and to reduce the risk of accidents for logistics providers in medium and large projects which made growth in the third quarter and confidence that the fourth quarter will show a 50% increase over the last year, Mrs Varinthorn said.

CDG and KMUTNB Expedite Coding Trainer to Support Digital Labour Markets

CDG Group, Thailand’s leading technology solution provider, the founder of the “CDG Code Their Dreams” project, and the Department of Computer Education, Faculty of Technical Education, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, signed an MOU on academic collaboration to conduct the “CDG Code Their Dreams: Public Training” project to offer the program on computer programming and application of computer software and electronic tools. The students, teachers, and the general public attending the program will have a chance to learn coding techniques and other computer software skills.

CDG and Mahidol University’s Faculty of ICT work on chatbot technology and website developments to support the Khlong Mahasawat Community as a social enterprise, seeing the number of visitors growing over 50%

After joining hands with the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mahidol University, in the “CDG Code Their Dreams” project, CDG Group, Thailand’s leading technology solution provider, disclosed that the project is part of the effort to drive the community tourism towards social enterprise. Under the project, new technologies are used to develop the “Mahasawat” website as an intermediary to build recognition about 5 tourist attractions of the canal community through “Mahasawat Storytelling,” a technique used for telling interesting stories and atmosphere. Chatbot system will be developed on the Facebook platform to provide information to tourists quickly to support tourism of the Khlong Mahasawat community. E-Commerce platform will be developed as another source of income on the community’s website. After the students’ visits to the community in the first phase, the number of tourists improved by 50%. Also, the team is ready to roll out plans to develop interactive VR games in the future by using AR technology for children’s learning.  Mr. Nart Liucharoen, Chief Executive Officer of CDG Group, revealed that, “CDG Code Their Dreams”, the collaborative project between CDG Group and the Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, was aimed at adapting technologies to improving the Khlong Mahasawat community tourism. Recently, a team of 15 students visited the community in order to develop the competition works into different online platform products including the Thai-English website www.mahasawat.com, the Facebook Chatbot, and e-Commerce channels. These platforms serve as intermediaries to raise awareness about tourist attractions of the Khlong Mahasawat community.    “CDG Group is committed to using IT know-how and technology to take community tourism to greater heights. Recently, a team of students, who were trained under the “CDG Code Their Dreams’ project, visited the community in order to use the competition works to create the Storytelling feature for the community’s website. The team also shared basic knowledge about computer programming, reason-based learning, logical thinking, and systematic thinking, the principles needed for developing new things, with the community members. Currently, the website www.mahasawat.com serves as an effective intermediary for the community to raise awareness about the 5 tourist attractions, namely Baan Saladin (Saladin House), Uncle Cham’s Lotus Field, Khanitta’s Baby Jackfruit House, Uncle Boonlert’s Fruit Farm, and Khun Soi’s Orchid Farm. The Storytelling technique is used to tell the interesting stories and ambience of the Khlong Mahasawat community. This helps attract more Thai and foreign tourists to come and visit the community.  As a result, the community saw an increase in the visitors of over 50%,” said Mr. Nart. Mr. Nart added that apart from the website, the team also developed the Chatbot system on Facebook to provide quick tourist information. Previously, the information service was not fully maintained due to a lack of manpower. Now, the Facebook Chatbot can answer visitors 24 hours, bringing the visitors closer to the community. Moreover, Global Web Index indicated that over 85% of Thai users used to make purchases through online stores and domestic online sales went up by more than 25% over last year. This project thus helps increase opportunities to generate income through an e-Commerce platform on the community’s website with the community’s products being promoted. Interested persons can view and order the products online without making physical visits. This allows community members to earn more income, instead of mainly relying on the tourists, and ultimately transforms the Khlong Mahasawat community tourism into a sustainable social enterprise. Mr. Wanchai Sawasdi-Daeng, President of the Ban Saladin Water Users’ Community Enterprise, stated that after the visits of the CDG Code Their Dreams’ team and the students from Mahidol University to the Khlong Mahasawat community to share academic knowledge and how to add promotion channels such as Facebook, a local website, and an inquiry channel quickly accessible to tourists like Facebook Chatbot; the tourist spots of the community continued to gain more and more recognition. As a result, on average, 80% Thais and 20% foreigners gradually came to visit the community during weekends. The locals who earlier did not know much about IT stuff or could not use social medial to its full benefit have now attained more skills and can make better uses. In the future, the local people should learn not only front-end uses, but also how to maintain the back-end system to ensure that the community can rely on itself in the long run. Nevertheless, CDG Group and Mahidol University plan to promote tourism through interactive VR games that can be used for cultural tourism. Such games will be jointly developed with bicycle maps to create the so-called “21st Century Classroom” for children aged 6-8 years. The children will play in simulated scenarios and have a chance to practice their problem-solving skills and gain a hands-on experience. Augmented Reality or AR technology will also be used in the games to create learning-driven environments as children will enjoy learning in real-world locations. The Khlong Mahasawat Community is one of the key tourist attractions in Nakhon Pathom province. There are 5 tourist spots, i.e. Ban Saladin, Uncle Cham’s Lotus Field, Khanitta’s Baby Jackfruit House, Uncle Boonlert’s Fruit Farm, and Khun Soi’s Orchid Farm. The community tourism was promoted through the digital media such as the Thai-English website.  The website contains 3 parts: 1) The community’s background and tourist spots, 2) Maps of the community’s tourist spots, and 3) Recommendations on places to go, things to do, local food to try, atmosphere, and farm products of local people unique to each tourist spot. For those who like to experience the charms of the Khlong Mahasawat community, please visit www.mahasawat.com or Facebook page: “ชุมชนมหาสวัสดิ์,” said Mr. Wanchai.
