Globetech Co., Ltd., a leading comprehensive mapping and location content service provider in Thailand, addressed the 12 technology trends that will soon add to the challenges faced by businesses.  Deploying IT technologies to outpace the competition, Globetech has created a new tagline for its NOSTRA Map, changing it from “The Map You Can Trust” to “Turn Your Data into Decisions”. The company has also developed a new product line based on a Data Analytics Platform to tap into insurance and healthcare services. The innovative products made possible through technological transformation will enable the company to keep its position on the market as the Number 1 in maps for navigation that also offer online lifestyle content.  The aim is to meet market demands with a customer-centric approach and build loyalty among automakers and consumers with 20 percent growth target this year.

Mr. Wichai Saenghirunwattana, General Manager of Globetech Co., Ltd., says that the company has not merely rewritten its tagline –from “The Map You Can Trust” to “Turn Your Data into Decisions– but is also repositioning its brand. In addition to the development of its core Location Content service, it is also offering a variety of services and in-depth information for analytical use. The company’s research and development team will focus on the adoption of Data, Big Data and Location Data to optimize benefits in Business Intelligence. This is seen as crucial in gaining a competitive edge to face up to upcoming 12 technology trends that will rapidly disrupt businesses.  Research by McKinsey & Company identified 12 technologies that have the greatest potential to drive substantial economic impact and disruption. They are: Mobile Internet, Automation of knowledge work, The Internet of Things, Cloud technology, Advanced Robotics, Autonomous and near-autonomous Vehicles, Next-Generation Genomics, Energy Storage, 3D Printing, Advanced Materials, Advanced Oil and Gas Exploration and Recovery, and Renewable Energy.

“In terms of business operations in Thailand, Globetech anticipates 5 IT technology trends that will have a massive economic disruptive impact on the country’s development and move to Thailand 4.0 and beyond. The upcoming disruptive technologies are as follows: Mobile Internet: increasingly inexpensive and efficient mobile computing devices and Internet connectivity including smartphones, tablets and wearables that create large volumes of data streaming in from mobile internet devices.  Automation of knowledge and work: intelligent software systems that help manage Big Data, enabling users to analyze difficult and complex information easily and quickly. Both the public and private sectors can bring significant insights to the decision-making on various issues.   Internet of Things (IoT): electronic devices and everyday physical objects are being connected to the internet. Development of IoT-based devices is proceeding rapidly.  Cloud Technology: the delivery of computing services over the internet, enabling SMEs to access IT products and services without having to pay the high operating costs of the past. Globetech has also taken Nostra Map from Offline to Online to increase its reach.  Autonomous and near-autonomous vehicles: Self-driving vehicles which require accurate and precise data to navigate and operate efficiently with no human intervention.  All these 5 IT technologies are driving the exponential growth of data. For this reason, NOSTRA’s “Turn Your Data into Decisions” new tagline has been created to offer enterprises a new experience in utilizing Big Data for business analysis and to optimize benefits,” said Mr. Wichai.

Mr. Wichai adds that Globetech is introducing two new solutions. The first, Smart Health, offers data connectivity through the Active Platform or Smart Watch Platform. This record of tracked daily activities and exercises can be used to analyze the relationship between various physical activities and health behaviors. Smart Health can help improve healthcare efficiency through reports drawn from 3 technologies: IoT, Telematics Device and Big Data Analytics. This solution has been developed to meet the needs of the health service industry including hospitals, nursing homes and health insurance companies.  The second, Smart Drive, meanwhile, delivers faster driving environments through Telematics technology, which uses collected data and wireless communications to provide drivers with advance warning of dangerous conditions on the road. Big Data Analytics technology tracks driving behaviors that will provide useful information for the insurance business. A new type of auto insurance called Usage-based Insurance (UBI) will be measured based on real driving time and distance and the individual’s driving behavior. This is beneficial to consumers and insurance companies in the digital age. Both solutions will help enterprises survive business in today’s world of digital transformation where executives must consider “Disrupt or be disrupted” in taking any decisions.

As the Number 1 in in-car GPS navigation, NOSTRA does not just provide a comprehensive map of location content service but has also developed Online Lifestyle Content to cater to the connected car or smart car. Lifestyle content for the connected car covers dining, travel, and shopping in line with consumers’ needs.  NOSTRA’s client list includes many leading automakers and the company expects to see a growing demand for in-car navigation solutions as the upcoming 5G technology fuels the rapid growth of the global connected car market, which is estimated to reach $156.1 billion in 2023. In Thailand, the number of connected cars equipped with the navigation system is expected to grow to 100,000 units by the end of 2019 from over 30,000 units at present.

Las year, Globetech met its targeted operating performance, with Map for Navigation and Map for GIS services both major contributors to revenue. This year, the new product line is expected to represent 10 percent of the total revenue, Mr. Wichai says.

The students, teachers, and the general public attending the program will have a chance to learn coding techniques and other computer software skills.

CDG and Mahidol University’s Faculty of ICT work on chatbot technology and website developments to support the Khlong Mahasawat Community as a social enterprise, seeing the number of visitors growing over 50%

After joining hands with the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mahidol University, in the “CDG Code Their Dreams” project, CDG Group, Thailand’s leading technology solution provider, disclosed that the project is part of the effort to drive the community tourism towards social enterprise. Under the project, new technologies are used to develop the “Mahasawat” website as an intermediary to build recognition about 5 tourist attractions of the canal community through “Mahasawat Storytelling,” a technique used for telling interesting stories and atmosphere. Chatbot system will be developed on the Facebook platform to provide information to tourists quickly to support tourism of the Khlong Mahasawat community. E-Commerce platform will be developed as another source of income on the community’s website. After the students’ visits to the community in the first phase, the number of tourists improved by 50%. Also, the team is ready to roll out plans to develop interactive VR games in the future by using AR technology for children’s learning.  Mr. Nart Liucharoen, Chief Executive Officer of CDG Group, revealed that, “CDG Code Their Dreams”, the collaborative project between CDG Group and the Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, was aimed at adapting technologies to improving the Khlong Mahasawat community tourism. Recently, a team of 15 students visited the community in order to develop the competition works into different online platform products including the Thai-English website www.mahasawat.com, the Facebook Chatbot, and e-Commerce channels. These platforms serve as intermediaries to raise awareness about tourist attractions of the Khlong Mahasawat community.    “CDG Group is committed to using IT know-how and technology to take community tourism to greater heights. Recently, a team of students, who were trained under the “CDG Code Their Dreams’ project, visited the community in order to use the competition works to create the Storytelling feature for the community’s website. The team also shared basic knowledge about computer programming, reason-based learning, logical thinking, and systematic thinking, the principles needed for developing new things, with the community members. Currently, the website www.mahasawat.com serves as an effective intermediary for the community to raise awareness about the 5 tourist attractions, namely Baan Saladin (Saladin House), Uncle Cham’s Lotus Field, Khanitta’s Baby Jackfruit House, Uncle Boonlert’s Fruit Farm, and Khun Soi’s Orchid Farm. The Storytelling technique is used to tell the interesting stories and ambience of the Khlong Mahasawat community. This helps attract more Thai and foreign tourists to come and visit the community.  As a result, the community saw an increase in the visitors of over 50%,” said Mr. Nart. Mr. Nart added that apart from the website, the team also developed the Chatbot system on Facebook to provide quick tourist information. Previously, the information service was not fully maintained due to a lack of manpower. Now, the Facebook Chatbot can answer visitors 24 hours, bringing the visitors closer to the community. Moreover, Global Web Index indicated that over 85% of Thai users used to make purchases through online stores and domestic online sales went up by more than 25% over last year. This project thus helps increase opportunities to generate income through an e-Commerce platform on the community’s website with the community’s products being promoted. Interested persons can view and order the products online without making physical visits. This allows community members to earn more income, instead of mainly relying on the tourists, and ultimately transforms the Khlong Mahasawat community tourism into a sustainable social enterprise. Mr. Wanchai Sawasdi-Daeng, President of the Ban Saladin Water Users’ Community Enterprise, stated that after the visits of the CDG Code Their Dreams’ team and the students from Mahidol University to the Khlong Mahasawat community to share academic knowledge and how to add promotion channels such as Facebook, a local website, and an inquiry channel quickly accessible to tourists like Facebook Chatbot; the tourist spots of the community continued to gain more and more recognition. As a result, on average, 80% Thais and 20% foreigners gradually came to visit the community during weekends. The locals who earlier did not know much about IT stuff or could not use social medial to its full benefit have now attained more skills and can make better uses. In the future, the local people should learn not only front-end uses, but also how to maintain the back-end system to ensure that the community can rely on itself in the long run. Nevertheless, CDG Group and Mahidol University plan to promote tourism through interactive VR games that can be used for cultural tourism. Such games will be jointly developed with bicycle maps to create the so-called “21st Century Classroom” for children aged 6-8 years. The children will play in simulated scenarios and have a chance to practice their problem-solving skills and gain a hands-on experience. Augmented Reality or AR technology will also be used in the games to create learning-driven environments as children will enjoy learning in real-world locations. The Khlong Mahasawat Community is one of the key tourist attractions in Nakhon Pathom province. There are 5 tourist spots, i.e. Ban Saladin, Uncle Cham’s Lotus Field, Khanitta’s Baby Jackfruit House, Uncle Boonlert’s Fruit Farm, and Khun Soi’s Orchid Farm. The community tourism was promoted through the digital media such as the Thai-English website.  The website contains 3 parts: 1) The community’s background and tourist spots, 2) Maps of the community’s tourist spots, and 3) Recommendations on places to go, things to do, local food to try, atmosphere, and farm products of local people unique to each tourist spot. For those who like to experience the charms of the Khlong Mahasawat community, please visit www.mahasawat.com or Facebook page: “ชุมชนมหาสวัสดิ์,” said Mr. Wanchai.
